gene + hormone connection

Hi Reader,

Happy Friday! I wanted to share a story with you about something I discovered a couple years ago.

In 2022 I ran my first in depth genomic profile on myself(outside of a 23&me), and I'm so grateful I did.

I was feeling a lot better a that time in general, but I had been dealing with chronic shoulder dislocations & hyper-mobility that resulted in needing a surgery because it basically was happening once a month.

I was also still dealing with higher thyroid antibodies(hashimoto's) and having some hormone-related symptoms that had improved significantly over the years, but were still there nonetheless.

I ended up getting my results back during the time I was recovering from my shoulder surgery, and interestingly, by having multiple gene variants, it showed that I had a predisposition to:

  • Issues/damage with my joints & ligaments (very timely info!)
  • Having a harder time detoxing excess estrogen
  • ...among several other helpful things!

Since getting this information, I've revamped my food/supplement regimen & lifestyle habits to account for these predispositions.

I also did some hormone testing(DUTCH) that verified I was "estrogen dominant"(where there is more estrogen compared to progesterone in the body which can cause a host of different issues) likely based on my genetic variants (more info on estrogen dominance).

Since then, I've rebalanced my hormones that have helped me feel much better over all(including calming my Hashimoto's significantly)(research on estrogen/hormones + autoimmunity).

So, the point of my story is, if you're dealing with any sort of chronic health concern or you're just wanting to see how you can feel even better, knowing your genomics is so helpful!

In health,

Christina

Hi Reader, I hope you are well! If you've been getting my emails recently, you've been hearing a lot about genomics/genetics from me! As I've been applying genomics more in depth over the past year+ it's really felt like the missing piece for so many of my clients. If you're curious about personalizing your plan even more and understanding how to make your genes work better with your food, supplement and lifestyle habits, I'm glad you opened this email! :) Like I mentioned in a previous...

Hi Reader, One of the first functional medicine tests that my first doctor ever had me do was a 23&me genetic profile (I wouldn't recommend this now by the way due to privacy concerns). When I got my results, I started going deep down the rabbit-hole that is the MTFHR gene variant (and yes, it is a funny looking acronym). It became a little bit crazy how much I was digging into the research, to a point that it became a little bit stressful where I felt like there was nothing that I could do...
